Riserva naturale Janaina, Brazil, 2010
During 2009, LaserFilm took its first steps towards a deeper social commitment by embarking upon a new means of communication, a path which goes beyond the enthusiasm for film which we bring to our day to day activities.
Through the 2009 LaserFilm calendar, we explored new territories, new horizons and new emotions, adding a new dimension to our love for cinema. A more humane direction, one that looks beyond the screen towards a better world. In 2010, we invite you to share in our commitment to the Atlantic Forest in Bahia, Brazil.
In the last 25 years, 10% of this forest has been razed to the ground, principally as a result of human activity; each year, approximately 1.2% of the tropical forests are degraded or destroyed, resulting in 13 million hectares of forest disappearing annually. In collaboration with FirstFlora, a young and dynamic reality, strongly ethical, created to protect ecosystems essential to the life on the planet, our goal for this year is to provide more exposure to the Janaina Natural Reserve. This exceptional area holds the world’s record for arboreal biodiversity, and in 2000 was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and priority at global level for conservation of biodiversity.
We have adopted several thousand square meters of forest in an effort to save it from the devastation that is afflicting a large part of this land. We present the trees in this reserve as the starting point for creating a more sustainable future.
The wonderful pictures that will accompany you on this journey were taken by Nicolaj Pennestrì, whom we sent to document our first steps in this new direction. Each year, we will select a new photographer and a new theme for reflection.
We’ve made a start with the trees, and invite you to join us as we continue along this journey.
