Star’s Zoo, 2014
The LaserFilm 2014 calendar was created as part of a special project dedicated to the animals hosted at Lo Zoo delle Star in Aprilia – a centre that has long offered refuge and care to creatures once used, and often exploited, in the Roman film industry. Many of these animals have found a second chance here: a protected environment, daily attention, and a life finally far from film sets.
Moved by their stories and by the commitment of the centre’s staff, LaserFilm chose to support this sanctuary with a donation aimed at safeguarding the health and wellbeing of its residents. From this gesture the 2014 calendar was born, a collection of striking close-up portraits captured within the zoo, each one revealing the dignity, vulnerability and quiet strength of these animals.
The photographs – ranging from reptiles to big cats, from birds of prey to small mammals – invite us to reflect on the relationship between humans and the animal world, and on the importance of protecting and respecting the creatures with whom we share our planet. It is a silent yet powerful homage to those who cannot speak, and a reminder to see these animals not as tools for entertainment but as sentient beings with value and sensitivity.
